Tifinagh

These pieces are inspired by the standard Tifinagh alphabet used to write the Tamazight languages spoken in North Africa. The Libyan writing system dates back to the Bronze Age and has been preserved by the Tuaregs. These languages have been in the process of revitalization since the end of the 19th century. For these pieces, I covered the letters yah ⴻ, yaḥ ⴾ, yaʕ (yaɛ) ⴿ and yaz ⵞ with reclaimed textiles. The wax comes from the burn out (discharge) in the lost-wax foundry process.
