IMPRESA
IMPRESA is a study of the historical motto and its propagation in the collective imaginary. It takes as its starting point the Latin formula PLVS VLTRA (Plus Ultra : Further Away) of Emperor Charles V. The ubiquity of this symbol coincides with the desires of colonial expansion, and underlines the persistence of the traces of these empires in the public domain.
These particular expressions, historical details often hidden in the learned notions of heraldry, highlight issues of migration, the oppression of colonial history and its repercussions on the present. Starting from a historical anecdote, a motto or a quotation, I reproduce these words and transpose my individual expressions onto them.
